Swine flu cases increase in Zambia

 

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) - Zambia has recorded more than 400 confirmed cases of Swi ne Flu countrywide, acting Health Minister Peter Daka confirmed here Thursday.

Daka told journalists in Lusaka that health experts were currently conducting te sts on more than 298 people for suspected Swine Flu.

He said no death had been recorded so far, and that many of the cases were in th e northern copperbelt province.

Daka also said the Ministry needed K9.8 billion to effectively fight the pandemi c (K4,500=1US$).

He said the government, through the Ministry of Health, had continued surveillan ce activities in an effort to contain the disease.

As of 20 September 2009, the WHO said there have been more than 300,000 laborato ry confirmed cases of pandemic influenza H1N1, including 3917 deaths in 191 coun t ries and territories.
