Ghana to host ECOSAP meeting on small arms

 

Accra, Ghana (PANA) - The ECOWAS Small Arms Programme (ECOSAP) Cluster B meeting will be held in Accra, Ghana, 24-25 August 2009, according to an ECOSAP stateme n t made available to PANA here Saturday.

It said the 'cluster meeting' is coming just ahead of this yearâ?s annual confe rence of National Commissions on Small Arms, which comes up later in September a n d sponsored by the ECOSAP to identify armed violence reduction projects in member states.

''It will also update, review and plan National Commissions (NATCOMS) activities in line with the benchmarks that were set in the work plan,'' it said, adding t h at the meeting would build the skills of participants to improve on narrative report writing, drafting of project prop osal and development of activity workplans.

Participants at the meetings will include staff from each NATCOM, the UNDP focal point, one representative from the Civil Society and the staff of ECOSAP.

In order to give effective technical backstopping to the NATCOMs and the Civil S ociety, ECOSAP had split the ECOWAS member states into four cluster as follows â " Cluster A : Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Guinea Conakry

Cluster B : Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ghana

Cluster C : Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali and Senegal

Cluster D : Benin, CĂ´te dâ?Ivoire, Togo and Nigeria

Clusters A and C held their own meetings on 23-24 and 29-30 June this year in Ba njul, The Gambia and Bamako, Mali respectively, while .Cluster D held its meetin g on 18-19 August 2009 in Lome, Togo
