DR Congo meets Swaziland in CAN preparations

 

Mbabane, Swaziland (PANA) - The DR Congo national team currently waxing up for the Cup of Nations finals coming up next month in Tunisia, would next Sunday take on Swaziland in a friendly encounter, Swazi football authorities confirmed here Tuesday.

"We have received a challenge from DRC for this friendly match, which they want to use it to prepare for the finals of the Africa nations Cup, and we are delighted to accept the challenge," said National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) spokesperson Bheki Mkhonta.

Mkhonta said Swaziland would field only home-based players in the encounter, leaving out several pros in neighbouring in South Africa.

"This is the time for local players to get chance to showcase their skills in the international stage. DR Congo are taking this game seriously and we hope to give them the drill they are looking for," he said.

In the run up to CAN 2004, the two countries played in the same pool, drawing 1-1 in the first leg played here, while the Congolese had the better of the Swazis 2-0 in Kinshasa.
