| Namibia 'detects' four suspected cases of Swine Flu

Windhoek, Namibia (PANA) -
Namibian health authorities said Wednesday they have
detected four cases of Swine Flu, which they said
could have emanated from Europe.
Namibia’s Institute of Pathology and the National Health Emergency Management Co
mmittee confirmed that a couple who had been to Germany
and another individual who had been to Croatia were tested for the virus after t
hey developed symptoms of Swine Flu.
Clinical Pathologist Henriette Roux, who works with the Institute of Pathology,
said the couple were tested at Windhoek’s Roman Catholic Hospital after
developing such symptoms such as sore throat, body aches and fever.
Another couple who had been to Croatia were also tested for the same virus, offi
cials said.
The fourth suspected case is that of a sailor who arrived in the country from Me
xico and also tested positive to the virus. His nationality has not been disclos
e
d.
Some of Namibia’s entry points have not yet been fully equipped to test for Swin
e Flu and create awareness amongst ports management about the virus
National Health Emergency Management Committee chairperson Jack Vries said that
the committee was confident that any suspected case would be detected and appeal
e
d
to members of the public to report any suspicious cases.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), some 70,893 cases of Swine Flu
involving 311 deaths have been confirmed around the world as at 29 June.
The global health body has since declared Swine Flu a global pandemic.
