PANAPRESS Board of Directors hails Kadhafi's election as AU Chairman

 

Dakar, Senegal (PANA) - The Board of Directors of the Pan African News Agency (PANAPRESS) has congratulated Libyan leader Muammar Kadhafi on his election as Chairman of the African Union (AU) at the 12th AU summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 1-3 February.

The board hailed Kadhafi's efforts to help in the realization of African people's aspirations for unity, aimed at ensuring that the continent could holding its deserved place in the global community.

At the end of its two-day annual ordinary meeting which rounded off on Saturday at its headquarters in Dakar, the Senegalese capital, the board also expressed its gratitude to the Libyan leader for his support to the continental agency.

The board presented ''a symbolic gift'' to the Libyan leader - ''an African Thinker Statue'' carved in ebony wood - which was received on his behalf by the board chairman, Abdulmajeed El-Dursi.

In a related development, the Senegalese Minister for Foreign Affairs, Cheikh Tidiane Gadio, on Saturday received a delegation of the PANAPRESS board, led by El-Dursi.

The delegation briefed the minister on the decisions reached at the meeting, saying they touched on issues relating to the development of the agency.

Gadio congratulated PANAPRESS for the quality of its products and emphasised the important role that PANAPRESS plays in promoting better information dissemination in Africa.

The Senegalese minister called on PANAPRESS to ensure a wider circulation of its products, so that the news it provides can be accessible to policy makers in all sectors.
