United Bank for Africa plans branch in Gabon

 

Libreville, Gabon (PANA) - The United Bank for Africa (UBA), whose strategy is c entered on the services of bank of proximity, is soon to establish presence in G a bon, PANA learned Thursday from authorized banking sources here.

The UBA, which recently received the prize of the "Emerging global bank award" and whose head office is in Lagos, Nigeria, is on standby of a banking approval f rom the Bank Commission of central Africa before going ahead with the project.

Present in Douala, Cameroon, since 2007, the UBA started its activities there th rough five agencies.

The range of products which will be possibly offered to the Gabonese customers a re the operation of current and savings accounts, term deposits, travellers' che q ues, money exchange, financing of international businesses, as well as granting o f loans to private individuals and companies, electronic banking which should re v olutionize the banking environment of Gabon.

UBA was created in 1961 from the defunct British and French bank Limited, a subs idiary company of the National Bank of Paris (BNP), set up in Nigeria since 194 9 .

UBA's assets are more than 4.000 billion francs CFA F (US$ 901,570,920,000) and has a portfolio of six million customers in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivo i re, Uganda, New York, Cayman Islands, and Europe.
