Darfur politician appeals for humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable in Genaina
Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - The Secretary General of the Sudan Liberation Party, Mohamed Hussein Isihag, on Friday appealed to political forces, and local and international civil society organizations for urgently needed humanitarian assistance for victims of inter-communal clashes in Krinik camp and the adjacent areas of Genaina, West Darfur state.
The official Sudan news agency quoted him as saying that those affected by the clashes are now “living in a disastrous situation” without shelter, food or clothing in the cold winter in this semi-desert area.
Isihag said “thousands of children, men and women are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance in and around Genaina town”.
“We are appealing to all the political and civil society forces and all the benevolent people to come and help those vulnerable groups.”
He said the international community should also stand up and help the vulnerable groups after the clashes that resulted in deaths and displacement of thousands of civilians.
Isihag urged the parties to the clash to observe “the sanctity of blood and religion, humanity and citizenship” and halt all enmities, listen to the voice of wisdom as they live in one homeland that can host all people.
The Sudanese high delegation, which flew to the area and remained there until the situation was brought under control, has formed a legal committee to see that justice is done.
The delegation headed by the first vice president of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Lt Gen Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, and which included the prime Minister Dr Abdallah Hamdouk, has meanwhile met with the various stakeholders. On Saturday it decided to lift the curfew, thus allowing for the delivery of badly needed humanitarian assistance.
The legal committee will later come up with the death toll, the injuries and the various losses sustained.
