Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, Monday received a letter from the Congolese President, Denis Sassou Nguesso, Chairman of the African Union's Special High Committee on the Libyan Issue.
The message was handed to him by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Congolese Abroad, Jean-Claude Gakosso.
At the start of the meeting in Tripoli, Mr. Gakosso conveyed President Nguesso's greetings to President Al-Manfi, congratulating him on the New Year and wishing Libya progress and prosperity, according to a statement from the Presidential Council.
The meeting focused on the latest developments in the national reconciliation project, the steps taken in preparation for the unified national reconciliation conference scheduled for next April, and proposals to ensure the success of this important national event, the same source said.
The African Union (AU) is supporting the National Reconciliation Project in Libya, and is playing a role in creating the conditions for its success with technical support and advice.
The chairman of the Libyan Council emphasized the need to bring the national reconciliation project to a successful conclusion and to attach importance to it, considering it to be the essential core of the construction of the Libyan state, assuring that its success will pave the way for the parliamentary and presidential elections so eagerly awaited by all Libyans.
