Zambian female AIDS activist honoured for leadership qualities

Lusaka- Zambia (PANA) -- The United Nations special envoy for AIDS in Africa, Eli zabeth Mataka, has earned some international awards, including scholarships for Z ambian students, for her contributions to women and leadership development.
Mataka was honoured by an American non-governmental organisation, the Centre for Infectious Diseases Research Foundation of America.
Foundation President Dale Bourke, said Tuesday in Lusaka that Mataka had contrib uted to the elevation of women and had worked for the development of women and t h e girl children.
Bourke explained that the award comes with an annual scholarship which will bene fit female school leavers who intend to pursue medical studies.
She said the foundation decided to bring the scholarship to Zambia because of th e inspiration and leadership provided by Mataka.
Bourke said the scholarship is aimed at encouraging more female children to stud y medicine and increase the number of female doctors in the country.
