Zambia: President Lungu extols performance of Zambia U-20 footballers at World Cup

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) – Zambian President Edgar Lungu has expressed delight at the stunning team spirit and unity of purpose exhibited by the Zambia Under-20 football team at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in South Korea and particularly in Wednesday’s game in which the Junior Chipolopolo beat the Iranian side 4-2.

“As I said last Sunday when the Junior Chipolopolo defeated Portugal in the opening match, team spirit and singleness of purpose can surmount any challenges we face as a nation. The team’s flawless progression now seems to be a remarkable fairy tale,”  President Lungu said in a statement issued by State House on Wednesday.

The President said the gallant boys have again shown the country another great example that unity triggers positive results.

“The gallant boys again have shown us another great example that, when we are united and focused, we can always be a winning nation. I congratulate the team whole-heartedly and pledge my own and government support to their continued campaign. I have no doubt, this team is about to make history,” the President stated.

“Well done boys. Well done the Coaching Staff and well done to the FAZ (Football Association of Zambia) President and the entire Football Administration,” the President stated.
