Zambia: Post newspaper boss, former Justice minister face defamation charge

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) – Zambia's former Justice minister, Wynter Kabimba, and the independent Post newspaper's managing editor,  Fred M’membe, were released on bail Monday after appearing before a Lusaka magistrate court to answer a charge of defaming former president Rupiah Banda.

Kabimba, currently president of opposition Rainbow Party, and the Post allegedly defamed Banda in an article published on 13 February 2015 relating to an ongoing court case involving the former head of state.

The two defendants were released from a brief detention at the court after meeting bail conditions of providing two working sureties each and a bond of Kwacha 5,000 (approximately US$714).
