Brazzaville, Congo (PANA) – The sponsor of the eighth edition of the Pan-African Music Festival (FESPAM), Senegalese musician Youssou Ndour, on Monday urged Congolese youth to be involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
"As everybody knows that AIDS kills a lot of people, we must face up to it. You, the youth, are the future of the country. As such you must see to it that this future is not compromised by others. One must be cautious and make use of the condom," he said at an inter-generational dialogue on HIV/AIDS in Brazzaville.
Mr. Ndour sensitised the youths on the major challenges of the AIDS pandemic and access to HIV care and treatment.
The meeting, which is on the theme "For a Congolese, African and Global generation without AIDS by the year 2015", comes within the framework of the implementation of the recommendations of the United Nations General Assembly on AIDS held in New York from 8-10 June 2011.
During the general assembly, the States adopted declarations of engagement and policy on HIV/AIDS by the year 2015.
