Young Frenchman arrested over illegal drugs in Mauritius

Plaisance, Mauritius (PANA) - The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA), in collaboration with the Anti-Drug Smuggling Unit (ADSU), on Monday intercepted 2.6 kg of a drug, synthetic cathinone, from the luggage of an 18-year-old Frenchman upon his arrival at the SSR International Airport in Mauritius.

The MRA said in a communique that the Frenchman was arrested on Monday while two other persons were arrested on Tuesday after a controlled delivery operation. The Frenchman came on holidays from La Reunion Island.

Sources at the MRA said the drug was found in a laptop bag.

Cathinone is chemically similar to ephedrine, cathine, methcathinone and other amphetamines.
