Cotonou- Benin (PANA) -- The 10th summit of heads of state of the community of Sa helo-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) on Wednesday elected Benin's President Yayi Boni a s chairman of the organization for a one-year term.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the two-day summit in Cotonou, President Bon i said he was committed "to explore all avenues to improve the position of CEN-S A D in the regional communities".
The summit was on the theme: "Rural development and food security in CEN-SAD zon e.
" Ten heads of state attended the summit.
They were Mouammar Kadhafi of Libya, Yay i Boni of Benin, Amadou Toumani Toure of Mali and Blaise Compaoré of Burkina Fas o .
Others were Ernest Koroma of Sierra Leone, Francois Bozize of Central Africa Rep ublic, Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi of Mauritania, Joao Nino Vieira of Gui n ea Bissau, Laurent Gbagbo of Cote d'ivoire and Faure Gnassingbe of Togo.
Launched on 4 February 1998 in Tripoli, Libya, CEN-SAD groups 28 member states, including Mauritania, Kenya and Sao Tome and Principe that joined the organizati o n on Tuesday.
