World AIDS Day: US supports Cote d''Ivoire with US$124m

Abidjan- Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) -- The United States has mobilised over US$124 mill ion (about 55 billion CFA francs) to support actions against HIV/AIDS in Cote d'Ivoire, the US Embassy in Abidjan told PANA T uesday.
This support is the largest source of funding for the fight against HIV/AIDS in the West African nation and helps to offer quality services in terms of prevention and provision of antiretroviral drugs made available in a ll health regions in the country.
Until 30 September, this programme helped to support the treatment of over 49,00 0 people and to provide assistance to over 95,000 orphans and vulnerable children and their host families.
The programme also carried out actions aimed at preventing HIV infection through awareness campaigns on the pandemic, targeting hundreds of thousands of Ivorians.
The national prevalence rate in Cote d'Ivoire dropped from 4.
7 per cent in 2005 to 3.
9 per cent in 2008, with a high percentage of 6.
4 for women, against 2.
9 per cent for men.
