Lomé, Togo (PANA) - Togo's national strategic plan for food and nutrition which seeks to fight malnutrition and promote optimal nutrition in the country, has been validated sources close to the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Lome said on Thursday.
According to WHO, the strategic plan is aimed at "fighting deficit and surplus malnutrition and promoting optimal nutrition and satisfactory nutritional state within the Togolese population".
The sources said the validation was done last week.
They said the main thrusts of the plan are: promoting nutrition and nutritional education including healthy livestyles; strengthening the fight against deficiencies in micronutrients; strengthening community involvement and capacity-building.
Aligned on the national agricultural, food security and national health development programmes, the Plan would also seek "to contribute to the harmonization and efficiency of sectoral policies and programmes having a diect or indirect impact on the food and nutrition of the populations", the WHO said.
