University awards top sports personalities

Cape Town- South Africa (PANA) -- Top South African hockey player Sophie Mayer and basketball star Quintin Denyssen were crowned sportswoman and sportsman of the year, respectively, at the University of the Witwatersrand's annual sports awards dinner Wednesday night in Cape Town.
English Literature student Mayer is captain of the national under-21 hockey team that competed in Argentina recently and she is a member of the National Women's Hockey team that travels to the US later this month.
Bachelor of Commerce student Denyssen plays for the South African men's basketball team.
He also represented South Africa at the World Student Games in Beijing last month.
The University's Sports Council hosts the annual sports awards which are decided by representatives of the over 40 sporting clubs on the campus, ranging from mountain climbing, aerobics and power-lifting to fencing, aquatics and football.
