Ugandan inmates use Bible, Koran pages as toilet paper

Kampala- Uganda (PANA) -- For want of toilet tissue, inmates at Masaka Prison in Uganda have resorted to tearing off pages from the Bible and Koran received from religious organizations seeking to help reconcile them with God and society, press accounts affirmed Thursday.
The State-owned New Vision newspaper quoted Masaka penitentiary guard Robert Munanura as confirming the blasphemy, noting that "religious organs usually donate holy books (Bible and Koran) to strengthen the faith of inmates.
" Masaka Prison, designed to hold 200 inmates, currently has 800 prisoners, most serving long sentences, while others were simply remanded in custody pending trials that are taking too long to come.
