Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - The US Embassy in Nigeria has warned of imminent attacks by the Islamic insurgent group Boko Haram against targets in the capital city of Abuja, following the multiple attacks in northern Yobe state on Friday night that the police said left 53 dead.
In a statement issued here and obtained by PANA, the embassy said it had received information that Boko Haram may plan to attack several locations and hotels in Abuja, Nigeria, in the next few days.
''Potential targets may include the Nicon Luxury, the Sheraton Hotel, and the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
''All U.S. Government personnel have been instructed to avoid these locations, and previously scheduled events have been cancelled,'' the embassy said.
It said the U.S. government had no additional information regarding the timing of the possible attacks.
Boko Haram, which claimed responsibility for the Yobe attacks, has vowed to carry out more attacks.
The group also claimed responsibility for the 26 Aug. on the UN House in Abuja, that killed 24 people.
