US: World's oldest airline, KLM, to launch new routes to Namibia, Angola

New York, US (PANA) - The World's oldest airline and the flag carrier of the Netherlands, KLM, on Friday said it is expanding its network of routes in October, offering three direct flights a week from Amsterdam to Windhoek, Nambia, via Luanda, Angola.

A statement by KLM office in New York, made available to PANA, stated: "As of October, a KLM Airbus A330-200 will depart from Amsterdam at 22:45 every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday for an overnight flight to Windhoek, the Namibian capital city."

"After a stop-over lasting one hour and 15 minutes in Luanda, it will arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek the following day at 12:15 local time," it said.

It noted that the return flights to Amsterdam will leave Windhoek every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 17:40. After a stopover lasting one hour and 15 minutes in Luanda, the flight will arrive at Schiphol Amsterdam Airport on the following day at 05:20.

The statement quoted Ms. Maureen Posthuma, area manager, Europe, Namibia Tourism Board, as saying: "We greatly welcome the new KLM flight connection to Windhoek, as it will open up Namibia even more for the European market."

"Namibia attracts great interest in the Benelux countries, Germany, France and the United Kingdom as well as other European countries, with its many-faceted landscapes.

"In future, these new direct flights from Amsterdam will fulfil demand even more effectively, inviting travellers to discover the ‘country of endless horizons’ for themselves," said Ms. Posthuma.

She said: "Namibia thrills visitors with landscapes full of contrasts, ranging from deserts and Savannahs to coastline and small villages, as well as many species of wildlife fauna and fascinating cultural diversity."

"Thanks to its good infrastructure and pleasant all year-round climate, Namibia is an ideal travel destination for nature and animal lovers as well as for visitors keen on active holidays and adventure," she added.

KLM, which is part of the Air France-KLM Group, was founded in 1919, and it is the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name (KLM) and has over 32,000 workers across the world.
