UNHCR official wants increased co-operation with Algeria

Algiers- Algeria (PANA) -- UN refugee agency (UNHCR) delegate in Algiers, Athar Sultan-Khan has called for the strengthening of co-operation between his organisation and Algeria, in refugee management.
Speaking at the opening of a seminar Wednesday on the protection of refugees, he said Algeria has always supported the UNHCR by welcoming refugees.
He recalled that in 1975, Algeria received some 165,000 refugees from Western Sahara, who are still waiting for the resolution of their conflict with Morocco.
Likewise, Algeria welcomed 90,000 refugees from Mali and Niger during the Sahelian drought.
