UNESCO Chief To Visit Namibia

Windhoek- Namibia (PANA) -- UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura will visit Namibia from 2-4 May, where he will take part in the award ceremony of the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.
In a statement Thursday the UNESCO office in Windhoek said Matsuura will call on President Sam Nujoma and Foreign Affairs, Information and Broadcasting minister TheoBen Gurirab.
On 3 May, the World Press Freedom Day, Matsuura will speak at the ceremony of the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize, awarded this year to the jailed Myanmar journalist U Win Tin.
The event will take place in Namibia as part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek on Promoting a Pluralistic and Independent African Press.
