UNAIDS Executive Director expected in Rwanda 27 August

Kigali- Rwanda (PANA) -- The Executive Director of the Joint UN Programme on HIV/ AIDS (UNAIDS), Michel Sidibأ©, is expected in Rwanda on an official visit last f r om 27 August to 3 September.
During the visit, Sidibe will acquaint himself with the various projects aimed a t fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS in Rwanda, where the prevalence rate is estima t ed at 3.
2 per cent.
"The head of UNAIDS is coming to Rwanda to show his support to efforts made by t he Rwandan government in anti-AIDS campaigns," said a statement made available t o PANA Monday by the office of the Resident Representative of the United Nations D evelopment Programme (UNDP).
The other projects that will be visited by the senior UN official include the ho spital in Rwamagana, east of the country, where voluntary HIV testing campaigns a re being conducted, including the initiative to prevent the mother-to-child-tran s mission of HIV (PMTCT).
Sidibأ© will afterwards go to the medical center in Biryogo (Kigali) where the p hones-for-health system is used in the detection of the epidemic and in providin g health care to HIV-positive patients.
Before leaving Rwanda, the head of UNAIDS will meet with Rwandan government offi cials, including President Paul Kagame, the statement said.
