UNAMID evacuates victims of bombardments of north Darfur village

El Fasher- North Darfur (PANA) -- UN/AU peacekeeping forces (UNAMID) on Friday ai rlifted wounded civilians, following Sudan Air Force (SAF) attacks on Umm Sidir i n North Darfur.
A press communiqué issued by UNAMID on Friday said the evacuation was conducted at the request of humanitarian organizations and in coordination with Sudanese a u thorities.
It said a UNAMID medical team was flown to the village of Umm Sidir on Friday to provide initial medical care to victims of the attack which left two men dead a n d eight seriously injured, two of whom are in a critical condition.
The wounded, whose ages range from 17 to 40 years old, were later flown by the U NAMID forces to El Fasher where they were admitted to hospital.
One man, who suffered severe head injuries from shrapnel is said to be in a crit ical condition, while another is awaiting surgery.
The others are in a stable co n dition.
Initial reports suggest that this SLA-controlled area north east of Kutum, has w itnessed repeated aerial attacks and possible fighting between government and re b el forces in the last few days.
"UNAMID condemns attacks against civilians and urges all parties to adhere to in ternational humanitarian laws, which prohibit military attacks against civilians , " the communiqué said.
A UNAMID fact-finding mission is currently conducting an investigation on the gr ound, while the peacekeeping forces continue to monitor the situation.
