UN restates commitment to assist Somali Puntland

Nairobi- Kenya (PANA) -- The office of UN Resident Humanitarian Co-ordinator (RHC) for Somalia, says it is committed to the full implementation of the Memorandum of Co-operation recently signed by the international aid community and authorities of the Puntland State of Somalia.
The Memorandum, based on the Guiding Principles of Operation for the international aid community throughout Somalia, highlights the humanitarian principles of access to vulnerable communities, neutrality and balance in delivery of aid, the safety of aid workers, as well as the co-ordinated and transparent implementation of programmes.
A statement by the RHC Office in Nairobi Wednesday said the UN would continue its plans to increase international staff presence in Puntland over the coming weeks.
This would be in co-operation with the regional authorities, in order to deliver vital humanitarian and recovery supplies to the Somali people.
