UN mission visits Guinean women victims of 28 Sept. crack-down

Dakar- Senegal (PANA) -- Civil society organizations, members of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) task force, set up by the United Nations office for West Afr i ca (UNOWA) will, from Monday, carry out a solidarity mission to Guinean women vi c tims of the tragic 28 September crack down at the Conakry stadium.
A communiquأ© made available by the regional organization Women Africa Solidarit y, which coordinates the mission, specified that the solidarity mission to Guine a n women was organized with the support of the United Nations Fund for Women (UNF W ), the Emergency Action Fund (EAF) and the Development Fund for African women (D F AW).
For these civil society organizations, it is about showing solidarity of the con tinent's women towards their Guinean sisters and assessing the impact of the con f lict on women, in order to suggest moves and follow up mechanisms.
The solidarity mission to Guinean women, made up of such organizations as FAS, P AWO, WANEP, WIPNET, was set up, following the tragic events of 28 September, 200 9 in Conakry, which left over 150 people dead and during which several women got s avagely assaulted and raped.
