UN decorates Moroccan peacekeepers in Cote d'Ivoire

Abidjan- Côte d'Ivoire (PANA) -- The United Nations on Friday awarded medals to 732 Moroccan army officers and non-commissioned officers in the 3rd contingent of the battalion of the world body's peacekeepers currently serving in Cote d'Ivoire.
The Moroccan contingent, which arrived in Cote d'Ivoire on 8 March 2004, is located in the country's north under the control of former rebels, or New Forces.
Morocco's ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire, Hassan Bennani and the Commander- in-Chief of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (ONUCI), Gen.
Abdoulaye Fall and his deputy, Gen.
Etienne Lafontaine of the French Licorne Force attended the medal award ceremony, which coincided with the 50th anniversary of the kingdom's independence on 18 November.
