UN: OIC condemns attack on AMISOM military base in Somalia

New York, US (PANA) - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned
the 1 Sept. attack by Al-Shabaab militants on the Janale military base of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in the southwest of the country resulting  in the loss of lives of several Ugandan peacekeepers.

An OIC statement made available to PANA in New York on Thursday, quoted OIC
Secretary-General  Iyad Ameen Madani, as extending his sincere condolences to the
families of "these heroes of peace."

He also conveyed his deep sympathy to the government and people of Uganda and urged
them to sustain their morale and commitment to the cause of durable peace in Somalia.

The OIC chief reassured Somali authorities and the international community of the
determination of the OIC to continue to actively support the stabilization efforts by
intensifying its contributions towards peace building in this OIC member state.
