Two dead in clashes between Ivorian ex-rebels

Abidjan- Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) -- Two persons died and others were wounded in clashes between two factions of Ivorian ex-rebels Thursday in Bouake, a stronghold of the ex-rebellion in central Cote d'Ivoire, sources told PANA.
According to witnesses, members of the faction led by warlord Cherif Ousmane were chasing an ex-rebel who sought refuge with the faction of Mobio, another warlord, who refused to hand over the fugitive.
An altercation ensued, then an exchange of fire with reinforcements from both sides, causing panic among the populace.
The secretary general of the former rebel New Forces confirmed on the phone that calm had returned to the city, and said an investigation was opened to identify those involved in the clashes.
The ex-rebels still occupy their zones - the northern half of the country - despite the Ouagadougou Agreement of 2007, and have been divided into opposing factions which often exchange fire to express their disagreement.
