Tunisian President receives Arab League Secretary General

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Tunisian President Kais Saeid received on Monday, at the Carthage Palace in Tunis, the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Abou el-Gheit.

The meeting focused on activities of the general secretariat of the Arab League and the latest developments in Arab issues, said a statement released on the official website of the Tunisian Presidency.

President Saeid affirmed the need for Arab countries to adopt a new approach for common Arab work that takes into account the past to better address the future.

In this regard, he called for the revision of the texts governing the specialised Arab organizations to give them more efficiency in their work in order to allow the Arab League to achieve the objectives for which it was created and to satisfy the aspirations of the countries and peoples of the region, the statement added.

For his part, Mr. el'Gheit said he had discussed with the Tunisian President the ways and means to allow the Arab League to carry out its mission and the next Arab Summit.
