Tunisia: World Bank grants Ebola-hit countries US$285 million

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - The Executive Board of the World Bank is to give US$285 million to the three countries in West Africa badly affected by the Ebola virus disease, according to a statement issued by the bank on Tuesday.

This additional funding will help Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia deploy additional national and international workers, while expanding prevention and early detection of suspected cases of Ebola virus.

The assistance is also aimed at revitalizing and strengthening basic health services in recipient countries, the statement added.

Ebola has killed more than 5,100 people mainly in the three countries. There has been a huge international mobilization of money and logistics and personnel to help fight the virus.
