Tunisia: Tunisian PM urges population to detest corruption

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) – Calling on the Tunisian population to denounce corruption and illegal enrichment, Prime Minister Youssef Chahed on Thursday said in a televised address that "prison is the suitable place for outranking corrupt elements."

"This fight against corruption and illegal enrichment is guaranteed under the bill that will soon be submitted to the Parliament of the People’s Representatives," said Mr Chahed, as he ordered Justice and Interior ministers to give priority to the issue in their respective ministries.

He emphasised the need to restore confidence of the Tunisian citizenry by bolstering public security, the fight against corruption and economic development with the aim of creating jobs and attracting investments.

The Prime Minister stated that his government would not continue working like a rescue institution that spends time resolving problems of the past caused by the absence of contact between the previous administrations and the people.
