Togo to sell 4,838 tons of maize to WFP

Lome, Togo (PANA) - Togo is to sell 4,838 tons of maize worth CFAF 1 billion (about US$2 million) to the World Food Programme (WFP), which is stocking up in anticipation of the food crisis to which the Sahel countries are usually exposed.

The WFP said it chose Togo for the quality of its maize and its geographic location.

Togo, being close to the Sahel region, will cut the cost of transportation of the product for the WFP.

The Togolese agricultural sector has been growing at an impressive rate over the last three years.
