Togo: Togo ratifies CEN-SAD revised treaty

Lomé, Togo (PANA) – Togo has ratified the revised treaty of the Community of Sahelo-Saharan States (CEN-SAD), adopted on 16 February, 2013, by the conference of Heads of State and government from the organization, PANA learnt from official sources here Thursday.

The treaty was ratified after a draft bill was adopted at a meeting of ministers.

A communiqué said the revision of the treaty became essential following its low achievements caused by, among other things, the Libyan crisis in 2011.

"From now on, CEN-SAD will live up to its responsibilities in ensuring peace, security and stability in the Sahelo-Saharan zone and more particularly around the promotion of political dialogue and the fight against cross-border crimes.

CEN-SAD, set up on 4 February, 1998, in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, is an international organization bringing together 28 African countries.
