Tanzanian President Kikwete in South Africa for Mandela memorial

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (PANA) - Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, early Tuesday to join world leaders at a memorial for Nelson Mandela, the iconic African statesman who died 5 Dec. aged 95.

The memorial, to be held at the 90,000-seat FNB stadium in Johannesburg, is intended to commemorate the life of the former and first democratically-elected President of South Africa who successfully liberated the country from apartheid and white-minority rule.

South Africans salute Mandela as a freedom fighter who opened doors to justice, equality and human respect for everybody regardless of their race, creed or political affiliation.

World leaders attending the memorial, an unprecedented event in Africa’s history, include several African heads of State and Government, US President Barack Obama and UK Prime Minister David Cameron.
