Tanzania solicits China’s cooperation to improve its agro-processing industries

Beijing, China (PANA) – Underlining the importance of improved technologies in the development of Tanzania’s agricultural sector, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has invited potential Chinese investors to focus on agro-processing industries in order to increase the value and find global markets for the country's farm products.

Mr. Majaliwa, currently attending the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), told the Deputy Mayor of Jiangsu Province, Mr. Guo Yuan Qiung, that Tanzania continues to improve its agricultural sector in collaboration with various stakeholders.

According to a news dispatch by the Tanzanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister identified the province of Jiangsu as a potential partner in Tanzania’s development efforts by applying industrial technology in processing products with value addition to suit world market demand.

“Cooperation with Tanzania in agriculture and manufacturing will enable our country to achieve its goal of becoming an industry-based economy by 2025,” said Mr. Majaliwa.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister pointed out that Tanzania needs Jiangsu Province’s experience in industrial development, particularly in terms of manufacturing technology; strengthening agricultural research and assistance in order to gain access to world markets for its peas, cassava and soybeans.

On his part, Mr. Qiung assured the Prime Minister of his provinces readiness to cooperate with Tanzania in the education field besides agricultural and industrial development.

He said the province has more than 60,000 universities and invited Tanzanian students to pursue higher education in those institutions.
