Switzerland: FIFA presidential vote goes into 2nd round

Zurich, Switzerland (PANA) - The election for president of football's governing body, FIFA, has gone into the second round as none of the four candidates was able to garner the two-thirds of the votes (138) needed to win.

During the first round, Prince Ali bin al-Hussein polled 27 votes, Gianni Infantino polled 88, Jerome Champagne had 7 and Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa had 85.

All candidates go into the second round where the candidate with 50 per cent of the votes wins, else it travels into Round 3 where the bottom candidate is eliminated.

In his speech to delegates before voting began at the FIFA Congress in Zurich, Tokyo Sexwale of South Africa pulled out  saying, "my campaign is suspended for now".

Sexwale was not seen as a major contender in the race to choose a successor to Joseph Sepp Blatter.
