Sudanese military clashes with rebels in North Darfur

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) clashed with rebel fighters and drove them away from North Darfur capital, Al-Fashir, SAF spokesman Sawarmy Khalid Saad said Sunday.

In a statement to the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA),  Col. Saad however denied as unfounded a local media report that there were explosions inside Al-Fashir town.

''What happened was that a SAF patrol operating outside Al-Fashir engaged 25 km outside the town in a clash with a force of the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement of Minni Minawe (SLM-MM) that was planning to shell SAF positions in Al-Fashir,

“Our forces managed to repulse the rebels who fled, leaving quantities of ammunition behind,” Col. Saad said.
