Port Sudan, Sudan (PANA) - A news portal close to the Sudanese government on Tuesday said the military rulers are currently engaged in consultations with senior US Administration officials on how to end the war in the East African country.
The daily Sudanhorizon quoted its sources within the government of Lieutenant General Abdul Fatah Al Burhan as saying that these efforts, led by the United States, under the supervision of President Donald Trump’s senior Adviser for African Affairs, Massad Boulos, are being conducted amid extreme secrecy.
The news outlet added that “the intensive consultations” are taking place in one of Sudan’s neighbouring countries, and that the number of officials involved from both sides is limited, and that a very narrow circle of decision-makers in Sudan is aware of what is going on.
It indicated that if an agreement is reached between the Sudanese and American sides on a road-map to ending the war, the matter will shift to official negotiations sponsored by the United States and Saudi Arabia, in a new format akin to the May 2023 Jeddah Forum.
Lieutenant General Al-Burhan said on Tuesday, during an inspection of Khartoum International Airport that came under a drone attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), welcomes peace based on firm national foundations but rejects any future role for “mercenary militias” and those who support them.
