Sudanese Speaker, 26 other parliamentarians elected unopposed

Khartoum- Sudan (PANA) -- Sudanese Parliamentary Speaker, Atem Garang, is among t he 27 parliamentarians elected by acclamation after a record five days of voting in Sudanâ?s historic presidential, parliamentary and state governorship election s.
The National Electoral Commission (NEC) said apart from a few candidates from th e Northern Sudan states, a majority of the winners were drawn from Southern Suda n .
NEC said in a statement that 23 of the parliamentarians were from Southern Sudan , while three candidates were from the Kassala State in the North.
The vote counting is underway after a record five days of voting for the various offices.
NEC has recorded a voter response above 60 per cent of the registered voters.
Th is means that just eight million voters turned out to vote for a Sudanese Presid e nt.
The voters had the marathon task of casting 12 ballot papers for the various off ices.
NEC Chairman Abdel Alier said the elections were largely successful, adding, how ever, that the flaws were recorded in some 1,060 constituencies.
This shows that the elections had a 3 per cent error, which in his opinion, is a cceptable.
He concluded that the elections returned a 97 per cent success rate.
