Sudanese Army takes over strategic area in North Kordofan State

Port Sudan, Sudan(PANA) - The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) official spokesperson has confirmed reports that the army has taken over the strategic town of Bara in North Kordufan State, about 400km west of the national capital, Khartoum, the official media reported on Friday.

Bara, a town located at the peripheries of the desert, link Khartoum to Kordufan and Darfur via a highway that serves as the main road for Sudan’s exports especially livestock, gum Arabic and sesame.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), at war since April 2023, vie to control the area and secure a steady line of supply and at the same secure the backyard for Khartoum.

The SAF  previously seized control of Bara in September 2025, expelling the RSF that had held the strategic city since the early months of the war. However, after about a month, the army pulled out of the city before retaking it now.
