Sudan welcomes US peace envoy

Khartoum- Sudan (PANA) -- Sudan has welcomed the appointment of a US envoy to broker peace in the country.
A Foreign ministry statement Monday described the move as a positive step reflecting America's shift from the "policy of containment and isolation" to one of "dialogue" in a bid to achieve peace.
"[Khartoum's] welcome affirms its keenness to work towards the attainment of peace in the country," the statement said.
It described as an "unprecedented experience," the visit of the UN Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, who was in Sudan to follow up progress in 'Operation Life-Line Sudan' (OLS).
The minister said government was facing difficulties in transporting relief material into the country from abroad even though the El-Obied airport located some 450 km west of the capital could now accommodate any aircraft.
