Sudan: Rebel leader Machar ready to end war in South Sudan

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) -  Former South Sudan Vice President and currently rebel leader Riek Machar has voiced willingness for reaching peace and for ending the war upon the start of the peace process in South Sudan.

Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour, in a statement to Sudan News Agency (SUNA) on Sunday, said he and an IGAD delegation met with Machar in South Africa. It was not clear when the parties are set to meet in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The minister pointed out that his meeting with Machar was ordered by the Ministerial Council of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) for revival of the peace process in South Sudan.

Similar meetings will be held with other opposition leaders and as well as the government of South Sudan led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Ghandour said.

He added that Sudan and IGAD are striving for the achievement of peace in South Sudan, the security of which is of concern to the neighbouring Sudan.
