Sudan: EU calls for Sudanese commitment to Darfur peace deal

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - The Head of Delegation of the European Union to Sudan, Tomas Ulicny, has underlined the need for all Sudanese parties to commit themselves to the implementation of the Darfur peace agreement, signed five years ago in Doha, Qatar.

According to a press release from the EU Delegation on Tuesday, Ambassador Ulicny was briefed by the chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority, Dr. Tigani Sisi in Khartoum, on the progress of implementation of the Doha Document on Peace in Darfur (DDPD)

The EU Ambassador highlighted at the meeting the importance of commitment by all signatory parties to push forward with the implementation of the DDPD and to convince more groups to join the agreement.

Highlighting the growing need for assistance in Darfur, Ulicny pointed out that international aid depends on the improvement of the security and stability of the situation in Sudan's western region.

He said that the EU closely follows the situation in Darfur and called for “more access” to  humanitarian assistance.
