Sudan: Dozens killed after fuel tanker explosion in South Sudan

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA ) - Scores of civilians were killed in South Sudan's Maridi town, West Equatoria State, when a fuel tanker capsized and exploded Wednesday, according to the UN Mission in that country, UNMISS.

UNMISS said Thursday it had received reports that "scores of people have been killed and an unknown number of people are injured".

Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric was quoted as saying, in a statement, that the Mission conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of South Sudan and the families of those who lost their lives.

The statement said the Mission had dispatched an emergency patrol to the site to assess the situation.

It also said a special flight carrying a medical assessment team had arrived there.
