South Africa president Ramaphosa salutes Mnangagwa

Johannesburg, South Africa (PANA) – President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged Zimbabwean leaders to accept Friday’s decision by the country’s Constitutional Court which upheld President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s July election victory.

The court validated the results as released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) that declared Mnangagwa the winner of the 30 July election with 50.7 percent of the vote against Chamisa’s 44.3 percent.

Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Khusela Diko, said the president has also congratulated Zimbabwe’s president-elect on his victory.

Ramaphosa also reaffirmed “South Africa's readiness to work with the government of Zimbabwe in the pursuit of closer political, cultural, economic and trade ties for the mutual benefit of the peoples of South Africa and Zimbabwe”.

Mnangagwa will be inaugurated on Sunday.
