South Africa: US$3,000 Mandela book to be published

Cape Town, South Africa (PANA) - Following the recent death of global icon Nelson Mandela, UK publishing brand Opus, in association with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, has announced the publication of an enormous book that chronicles his life and times.

The 50cm² book consists of 850 pages and weighs 37kg.

At a cost of US$3,000 per copy, the book is likely to be a treasured tribute when it is published later this year.

Only 10,000 copies will be available worldwide, while derivatives of the Opus will be available to make the ultimate work produced on Mandela's life accessible to millions around the world.

Award-winning journalist Ryland Fisher, who edited the book, told PANA the project was “a labour of love” and would be the definitive book on the global icon.

Celebrated South African photojournalist Benny Gool, who chronicled the life of Madiba, is the official photographer for the Opus and had to wade through thousands of images to select the finest.

The book contains contributions by politicians Jacob Zuma and FW de Klerk, leading lawyer George Bizos and business tycoons Bill Gates and Richard Branson.

There are also interviews with family members and members of Mandela’s cabinet.

Archbishop emeritus Desmond Tutu wrote the foreword.

The Opus collection is a series of the largest works ever produced on selected iconic stories, organisations and personalities, including Ferrari, Manchester United, Michael Jackson and Sachin Tendulkar.
