Cape Town, South Africa (PANA) – Cape Town International Airport has been named the best airport in Africa by the Europe-based Skytrax Awards.
The airport which underwent a US$ 600 million upgrade in 2015 was listed ahead of airports in Johannesburg, Durban, Mauritius, East London, Port Elizabeth, Cairo, Bloemfontein, Seychelles and Marrakech.
The awards are based on surveys from over 13 million passengers across the world. The surveys took place June 2015 to February 2016 and involved 550 airports globally.
As Africa's third largest airport, Cape Town International processes more than 8 million passengers annually with more than 50% of the country’s air passengers passing through the airport.
