Soro meets Nigeria's President Jonathan

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - Guillaume Soro, appointed head of government by Cote d'Ivoire's President-in-waiting Alassane Ouattara, Friday met with Nigeria's President and ECOWAS Chairman Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, Nigeria.

PANA  reported that the meeting was held behind closed doors at the Aso Rock presidential villa in the Nigerian capital.

Details of the talks have yet to be made public, but PANA learnt that the meeting was in continuation of Soro's diplomatic offensive against incumbent Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, who has failed to step down despite losing to Ouattara in the 28 Nov. 2010 presidential runoff.

ECOWAS has asked Gbagbo to quit or be ousted by force, and President Jonathan said this week the military option remains on the table despite ongoing efforts to seek a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
