Somalia: Somali senior officer killed in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Somalia (PANA) - A senior Somali Army officer was murdered on Sunday evening in  the capital, Mogadishu, by unidentified armed men, the website La Nouvelle Somalie reported on Monday.

Quoting witnesses, the website stated that armed men attacked General Abdallah Qarourouh, former Assistant to the Army Commander, when he emerged from a mosque. His bodyguard was also killed in the attack.

No organisation has claimed responsibility for General Qarouroih's murder, but the Somali authorities refer generally to the Somali rebel movement Al Shabab as the perpetrator of such acts.

The terrorist movement has of late targeted several government officials, particularly those in the Army.
